I was just going through my phone’s audio files and found this cheeky recording I made at James Blake’s Old Pancras Church show a few weeks ago in London. And it doesn’t sound half-bad. The song is a cover of Joni Mitchell’s gorgeous Blue classic A Case Of You, which James encored with on the night and introduced in to his live set this year. The show was awesome and this elegant rendition proved to any doubters that Blake’s voice isn’t reliant on the vocal-bending and enhancing that he uses to such fine effect. Bootlegging is a piece of fucking cake! Tomorrow I’m going to get you all a camera phone recorded version of the new Harry Potter movie.

Here’s a brilliant new video from Adam ‘I WANNA DANCE!’ Goldberg’s new band The Goldberg Sisters. Shush is recorded in one long continuous iPhone take and works wonderfully. Athough, I regret to report that I do detect a whiff of an effect app as unfortunately the world doesn’t actually look like the Seventies any more. Listening to the new self-titled record now and it is really quite something. Let’s hope Matthew McConaughey is the next Dazed & Confused star to get in the recording studio as unfortunately there just isn’t enough Country & Western being made right now.

With all these protests in London and around the globe, political unrest in the Middle East, disillusionment with the government in Japan and dissatisfaction just about everywhere else except for Switzerland, all on top of a serious war erupting in Libya, it seems strange there isn’t more politically-fuelled, pissed off punk rock being made. Wow, has it really been two years since the krautrock, new-wave, psych and garage amalgamating brilliance of The Horrors’ Primary Colours? With a new record currently in the works, a three-date UK tour in June announced today suggests we may not have to wait long for new stuff. A lot can change in two years, but I’ll bet you a charcoal velvet cravat they’ll still at least be wearing black when they return to the stage.

This has gotta be my favourite video of the year so far. Directed by the always brilliant So Me, the contagious and Prince-vibing Embody is SebastiAn’s first single from Total expected in May. And Kavinsky, obviously wanting to get involved in this whole Ed Banger homecoming party thing has just posted a 30 second snippet of his remix for Embody too. You can find it here.

Filmed with Javier Mendizabal skating Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the Basque country to Devendra Banhart’s Shabop Shalom.

The 2011 RSD list of records and rarities has just been posted over at www.recordstoreday.com with Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Syd Barrett, Deerhoof and Fleet Foxes all participating in the frivolity. It’s important to remember though, that the same rule goes for record stores as it does for cute puppies at Christmas. A record store is for life, not just for Record Store Day.

The No Pain In Pop blog just posted a couple of new songs by Londoner Alexander Shields’ disparate pop project A Grave With No Name. Here’s a stream of a song actually called Streams. We can only presume by the lush melodies and meandering guitars that this Streams is named for the small, narrow river kind and not the free online music kind we all love so much. Actually maybe the opening ‘there are streams/in the woods’ lyric clears it up as we all know how tough it is to get a decent 3G signal in the middle of a forest.

Wavves kinda spoil us don’t they? This year Nathan Williams seems to have treated us to a couple of fresh songs each month, as well as the seaside shenanigans of the King Of The Beach video just a few weeks back and now these three unreleased jams with Zach Hill recorded in Sacramento last year. As if the drums on Wavves weren’t already loud and prominent enough, along comes Hill to just smash the whole thing up to an even more apocalyptic level.
